The Division of Student Affairs recently held its annual awards ceremony with an event that Vice President of Student Affairs JC Lopez calls “uplifting.”

A total of 34 newly and previously elected members of Grinnell’s classes of 2025 and 2026 are being recognized this year by Phi Beta Kappa for their outstanding academic achievements.

The 2025 Bachelor of Arts Exhibition (BAX) at ������Ƶ is open at the ������Ƶ Museum of Art through May 22.

Rudacille is one of 54 new Truman Scholars selected from 743 candidates nominated by 288 colleges and universities. Truman Scholars must demonstrate outstanding leadership potential, a commitment to a career in public service, and academic excellence. Each Truman Scholar receives a scholarship worth up to $30,000 for graduate or professional school, leadership training, career advising, and special internship and fellowship opportunities within the federal government.

Two members of the ������Ƶ community have been recognized with prestigious civic engagement awards from Seed Coalition. Wiralba Pichardo ’25 – Recipient of the Presidents’ Student Leadership Award and Assistant Professor of Political Science, Andreas Jozwiak – Recipient of the Presidents’ Civic Engagement Leadership Award.

Sarah Toay ’23 has been awarded a C$10,000 McCall MacBain Regional Award for graduate study at any public university in Canada. The scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

This prestigious award enables faculty from institutions not classified as "Doctoral Universities: Very High Research Activity” or “Doctoral Universities: High Research Activity" to work alongside leading scientists at DOE-funded national labs during the summer.

This semester, the College’s student newspaper and radio station have collaborated to launch a new project called Scarlet Sessions. Scarlet Sessions will serve as an opportunity for student musicians to have their music professionally recorded and released on The Scarlet and Black’s social media. 

His project, an original musical inspired by the Buddha's journey to enlightenment, will blend the rich performance traditions of India with Western musical theatre, serving as a catalyst for interfaith dialogue in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.

This year’s recipient of the Fischlowitz Travel Fellowship, Chikako Inoue ’26 , will explore the history of comfort women in World War II.
